Trey Sheppard

Trey Sheppard is a lifelong resident of Sandersville and proud Co-President of Howard Sheppard, Inc., a family-owned transportation and logistics company that has served Georgia for over 83 years. With a strong record of leadership in business, education, and community development, Trey brings people together to get things done. 

A dedicated public servant, Trey currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Citizens Bank of the South and as a member of the State Board for the Technical College System of Georgia, where he has served as both Vice Chairman and Chairman. His leadership also extends to the Washington County Development Authority, the Georgia Motor Trucking Association, the Georgia Mining Association, and Brentwood School, where he serves as Chairman of the Board.

Trey’s commitment to education, workforce development, and local business has earned him recognition from Georgia Trend and Georgia Southern University, both naming him to their “40 Under 40” lists. He is also an active member of YPO and the Sandersville Rotary Club, where he is a past President.

A graduate of Georgia Southern University with a degree in Finance, Trey values teamwork, faith, and family above all. He and his wife, Emily, have been married for 25 years and are proud parents of four children – Ford, Anne Marie, Emerson, and Jones. Trey and his family are active members of Sandersville First Christian Church, where Trey serves as an elder.

The people who make our communities special are worth fighting for. Trey Sheppard will fight every day for the neighbors, families, and small businesses that are key to Georgia’s future.

Jobs and Economic Development

Trey has spent his career helping lead an 82-year-old family transportation and logistics company, and he knows what it takes to create jobs, meet a payroll, and keep a business growing in rural Georgia. He has also served on the Washington County Development Authority and organizations representing Georgia’s trucking and mining industries. Trey will work to recruit new investment to our communities, support the small and family-owned businesses already here, strengthen the infrastructure employers depend on, and cut unnecessary regulations that make it harder to grow and create jobs.
Just as important, economic development has to create opportunity for the people who already call our communities home. Trey will fight to connect education and workforce training with the jobs available in our region so more young Georgians can build successful careers without having to leave home to find them.

Education & Workforce Training

Education has been a major part of Trey’s public service. He has served as both Chairman and Vice Chairman of the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia. Trey believes every student deserves an education that prepares them for a successful life, whether that path leads to a four-year university, technical college, skilled trade, or directly into the workforce.
He will support strong teachers, high academic standards, parental involvement and local control while expanding career and technical education, apprenticeships, and partnerships between schools and local employers. Trey knows our schools should prepare students not just to graduate, but to succeed.

Safe Communities & Strong First Responders

Safe communities are the foundation of a strong quality of life. Trey will stand with the law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs and other first responders who protect our families every day and work to make sure they have the training, equipment and resources necessary to do their jobs safely and effectively.
He will also support strong school safety, tougher action against violent criminals and drug traffickers, and better coordination among state and local public safety agencies. Trey believes the people closest to our communities understand their needs best, and Atlanta should be a partner to local law enforcement.

Commonsense, Conservative Leadership

Trey’s leadership experience extends from a family business to banking, education, economic development and community organizations. As a longtime business leader, and a member of boards across our region and state, he has learned that leadership means listening, bringing people together, making responsible decisions and being accountable for the results.
Trey will bring that same approach to the State House. He will protect taxpayers, defend our conservative values and focus on practical solutions that make life better for the people he represents. Public service should be about accomplishing something for your community, not getting attention for yourself.

Protecting Rural Healthcare

Where you live should not determine whether you can get quality healthcare when you need it. Rural hospitals, local clinics, physicians, nurses, EMS providers and other healthcare professionals are essential to both the health and economic strength of our communities.
Trey will fight to keep quality care close to home, strengthen the healthcare workforce and make sure rural Georgia receives its fair share of state resources. He will support efforts that help local providers recruit and retain doctors and nurses, expand access to care and use new technology where it can help patients without replacing the local providers families trust.

Rural Georgia deserves a strong voice at the Capitol. That means one that understands our economy, our schools, our infrastructure and the challenges our communities face. Trey has spent his life in Sandersville building a business, serving local institutions and working with leaders across Georgia. He knows that our part of the state cannot afford to be an afterthought when decisions are made in Atlanta.
From roads and infrastructure to economic development, education, healthcare and public safety, Trey will work to bring state investment and opportunity back home. He will listen to local leaders, show up in the communities he represents and fight to make sure rural Georgia gets the attention and resources it deserves.

Agriculture, Transportation & Rural Infrastructure

Our region depends on the roads, farms, mines, manufacturers and small businesses that keep our economy moving. Trey understands that firsthand. His family has spent more than eight decades in Georgia’s transportation industry, and that experience has given him a firsthand view of the infrastructure our communities and employers need to compete.
Trey will fight for safe roads and bridges, reliable infrastructure, strong agriculture and natural-resource industries, and responsible investment in rural communities. He believes Georgia’s continued growth should create opportunity in places like ours, and not leave rural Georgia behind.

Lowering Costs & Protecting
Taxpayers

Trey knows families and small businesses are feeling the pressure of higher costs, and he believes state government should be looking for ways to ease that burden. As a business owner, Trey understands that every dollar matters, whether it’s around the kitchen table or on the balance sheet of a small business.
Trey will fight to keep Georgia’s income taxes moving lower, provide meaningful property tax relief for homeowners and seniors, and cut unnecessary regulations that drive up the cost of housing, insurance and doing business. He will demand responsible state spending and work to ensure Georgia remains a place where families can afford to live, work, raise their children and retire.
